Welcome! Your visit to this website suggests that you are interested in growth and positive change in your life.
Why should I consider counseling?
Counseling is an investment that individuals make in their well being when they are committed to bringing about constructive change in their relationships, their work and most importantly within themselves. My counseling approach focuses on expanding an individual’s self awareness in terms of strengths, stressors and resources. By focusing on helping individuals become aware of their strengths and vulnerabilities and developing and implementing new coping mechanisms; positive and sustainable results are possible.
How should I choose a counselor?
Selecting a counselor with whom you feel comfortable is critical. You should feel that your concerns are understood and treated with respect and compassion. It is also important that a counselor be competent to assist with the specific concerns you have. I offer individual psychotherapy services for individuals who desire help with various challenges such as depression, low self-esteem, Bi-polar disorder, ADD/ ADHD, obsessive-compulsive behavior, anxiety and stress management.
I also offer career counseling services and have worked with individuals dealing with various workplace challenges, career change/exploration, job searching and resume development.
Many individuals find that a combination of career counseling and individual psychotherapy is very helpful and allows them to make postive changes and achieve real growth in both of these important areas of life.
What should I expect from counseling?
Counseling is a joint undertaking that requires openness, honesty, trust and a willingness to change. It also requires commitment to therapy and the time, energy and expense associated with that. Change is the only constant in our lives and yet it is that very word, CHANGE that elicits fear in many of us. When contemplating individual or career counseling and the inherent changes that exist in counseling, it is expected that in addition to feeling fearful you might feel anxious, uncertain, excited, curious and optimistic. A seemingly very confident and poised client once told me after several meetings, "It was terrifying for me to pick up the phone and call to request an initial appointment. I'd never seen a counselor before."
Acknowledging that fear and proceeding with the counseling process that will bring about change and growth takes courage, a willingness to confront oneself and an openness to and desire for personal growth.
What are other benefits of counseling?
In addition to bringing about constructive changes, many clients find that counseling is helpful in that it provides a supportive, safe, confidential place to discuss relationships, life or work challenges and the emotions that go with those. A client recently remarked, "You're the only person I can be totally honest with about my feelings." Having this confidential place to talk honestly, also allows clients to mentally set aside or "compartmentalize" the concerns that they bring to counseling, and focus more fully on life's daily issues. They know that they have a supportive environment and time set aside for talking through these deeper, more complex concerns. At the end of a recent session, a client said, " I feel so much better now. I'm so glad I came here today!"
I welcome the opportunity to talk with you and and see how I might support your efforts to improve your personal and/or work life.
